The time's they are a changing', right? With Facebook those changes seem to happen from the time I turn my computer off at night to when I get up in the morning. I don't take change well, in fact I keep rejecting Gmail's offer of the "new and improved look" for my inbox. No,thank you. They do keep warning me that eventually I won't have a choice of accepting the new look, sigh.
And now here comes Facebook with its new Timeline feature. I rejected it for my personal page as long as I could but decided to be proactive in changing myFacebook business page. I mean I even have a new cover for it and am playing around with the other features.
- Choose a cover image. Your image tells visitors to your page what your business is. If you're in the pet industry, you will naturally want to have pet images. Your cover imge needs to be 851 by 351 pixels and cannot be an advertisement. You can't have a "call us now" or a "BOGO" announcement or even a link to your website. Because of this you need to make certain your profile (About tab) is completely filled out.
- Do you have milestones in your business? If so, add those dates to your timeline so they are highlighted when visitors arrive on your page. Don't forget to add photos to highlight those events!
- Play around with layouts as you can customize or "pin" specific information to the top of your page. Those customizations will be live at the top of the page for seven days. To keep a feature post at the top of the page click the pencil icon. This is a handy feature if you're running a week long special or trying to get people so sign up for a specific event.
- No longer will you see the links/tabs on the left side of your page -- they will be at the top right side of the page. Edit which tabs you want your fans to see first. These too can be edited by clicking the number icon that has the arrow next to it.
Are you ready for the March 30 timeline changes? Do you need new cover art? Here are a couple of places you can go for cover designs on the cheap: www.fiverr.com and www.elance.com
Good luck and happy changing!
