What steps do you take to recharge your mental batteries? Do you take a walk? Spend time with friends or family? Cuddle your dog on the couch and watch your favorite movie?
If you're in the midst of a particularly difficult task, how long does it take you to step away from that and recharge? Are you even aware of the fact that you need to recharge and bring a fresh perspective to your day? Many times, in the past, I wasn't aware that my energy was being drained by a particular task I was involved in. I also wasn't always aware of the people who drained my energy.
Because I know how important it is to care for myself mentally, physically and spiritually, I have learned to be more aware of those things in my daily life that take away my joy.
When I feel drained, I step away from my computer, close the roll top desk and brew a cup of tea. The simple act of boiling the water and heating the teacup and the other preparations that go into a perfectly brewed cup of tea are calming. Sipping tea while curled up on the couch with Henrietta. A brief 15-minute tea break or a walk (if the weather ever cooperates) energizes me and gives me the mental strength to finish the task at hand.
How do you recharge?

The best thing I do for myself when I can take a whole day is to turn off all electronics...no computers, no phones, no TV...I take Gizmo for a long hike, read books, cook & clear my mind

I step away from the computer and do some stretching. I move because i find that working at the compute for long periods puts strain on some parts of my body. By moving, I can ease the tension in my shoulders and other areas. After I do that I get back on it again.
Sometimes I'll go for a longer walk and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. That really helps me get perspective as well.
I think it is really important to take those breaks. I often go back with a fresh way of looking at a problem.
